A big thank you to the staff and customers at Rascals Softplay in Newry.  Their collection box raised £32.75.

It is with the continued support and  help of local funding that we are able to continue our research.   If you would like to place a BART collection box in your premises please contact Beverley on 028 950 43215.

Please Donate Your Unwanted Gifts

According to the Charities Aid Foundation we spend £2.1 billion on unwanted Christmas presents. That means on average we each received at least two unwanted presents.

Whether you’ve already got one the same, or simply not your style – re-gifting presents for the tombola at the BART Walk can be a simple yet very effective way of helping us fund projects in the year ahead. We accept all sorts of items:

  • Jewellery and accessories
  • DVDs, CDs and vinyl
  • Bric-a-brac and homeware

The MITRE Trust shop in Musgrave Park Hospital has kindly offered to provide a drop off service.

The shop is open from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.

In the Primary Joint Unit although our rate of survival following knee replacements 10 years post operation is excellent (97.8%); our patient satisfaction is not as good with 1 patient in 20 feeling that the operation has not helped. In May 2015 BART held a 2-day meeting to discuss ways of improving early outcomes following knee replacements.

Since then we have been working with the School of Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast on pre-operative psychosocial questionnaires to see if they can predict how well a patient will do following a knee replacement.  This biopsychosocial study will be made on 164 patients who have had knee replacements at Musgrave Park Hospital.  We currently  have 61 patients  who have agreed to participate.

It is hoped that the results help us in the future to be able to intervene with those patients who we think will have problems following their operation and therefore improve their outcome.

Our research would not be possible without the important donations we receive throughout the year. So please help us further our work by sending a donation today.
