My name is Clare Wilson and I work in the Children’s Hospital Belfast as the Paediatric Orthopaedic and Trauma Clinical Nurse Specialist.   My interest has always been in Orthopaedics, initially training in the Belfast City Hospital as an RGN and then undertaking the Orthopaedic Certificate in Edinburgh.  I then travelled and worked in Sydney and Perth Australia, before coming home and taking up post in the Fracture clinic RBHSC.

After further study (BSc Health Studies, Post Reg Children’s Nursing, BOA Casting Cert and Health Service Management Cert), I applied for and got my current position.

The Children’s Fracture Clinic is a very busy unit, especially when the clocks change and kids are out playing in the light evenings!  It is a challenging place to work but l get great job satisfaction seeing children with injuries progressing through their treatments and recovering.

Throughout my career I have worked with a great many talented medics, nurses and AHP’s and although I have been based in RBHSC have always enjoyed close links with colleagues in MPH.

As a result of research, and the innovative minds of the Orthopaedic Practitioner, I have seen many changes and advances in Orthopaedic and Fracture treatment over the years and BART is a great resource to assist in these developments.   Last year I took part in the Belfast City Marathon 9 mile walk to raise funds for this great cause.

Our research would not be possible without the important donations we receive throughout the year. So please help us further our work by sending a donation today.
